News of the updated 2012 Nissan GT-R continues to trickle out, this time thanks to two posts from NAGTROC.com. Chief among the leaks is news of a possible “luxury” version, provisionally called Spec-M.
While detailed equipment specs aren’t yet available, the Spec-M model can be expected to pack more comfort and luxury options. The car should be officially announced by Nissan October 18 and will debut in Japan about a month later as a 2011 model. (None of the changes detailed here or in our previous post will make it to the U.S. until the 2012 model year.) Along with the availability of exclusive white paint, the Spec-M will offer a range of new leather and interior trim colors. Pricing in Japan is expected to be ¥15,000,300—a whopping $177,700 if converted directly to dollars. If the model were to be made available here and that conversion proved accurate—basically double the GT-R’s 2011 base sticker—the Spec-M might be a tough sell unless it packs a lot of extra gear.
Engine Updates, Eco Mode, Revised (Again) Launch Control
As for the standard car, the new info foretells some big mechanical changes. The twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V-6 engine is said to nab enlarged intake plumbing and a less-restrictive exhaust. There are no precise figures, but Nissan says to expect efficiency to improve and a PS output figure beginning with “5”. That would translate to at least 493 hp, or 13 more than the current car, and you can be sure any extra ponies will be put to work on the Nürburgring in an attempt to shave the GT-R’s lap time.
